Introduction of Nanjing Maritime Court

 

Nanjing Maritime Court is the 11th Chinese maritime court with jurisdiction over coastal waters of Jiangsu and the seaward waterway of the Yangtze River. The court consists of the General Officethe Political Departmentthe Case Filing Tribunal, the Maritime Affairs Tribunal, the Maritime Commerce Tribunal, the Enforcement Bureau, the Judicial Police Troop, the Organic Party Committee. To facilitate litigation, the dispatched tribunals have been set up in the jurisdictions in the cities of Suzhou, Taizhou, Nantong, and Lianyungang.

The jurisdiction of Nanjing Maritime Court covers the coastal waters from the junction of Jiangsu and Shandong to the junction of Jiangsu and Shanghai. The main and branch waterways of the Yangtze River from the junction of Jiangsu and Anhui to Liuhekou, Jiangsu, and the harbors and seaward waterways in Jiangsu are covered in the jurisdiction as well.

In accordance with Provisions of the Supreme People's Court on the Scope of Cases to Be Accepted by Maritime Courts, Nanjing Maritime Court handles 108 subdivided types of cases under 6 categories concerning maritime tortious disputes, maritime contract disputes, disputes related to utilization of oceans and seaward waterways and environment protection, other maritime affairs or commerce disputes, maritime administrative cases, and special maritime procedures. Jiangsu High People's Court has the jurisdiction over appeals against judgments and orders of Nanjing Maritime Court.

The Court upholds the principles of high standards and high requirements, aiming to build a professional maritime trial team that masters legal practice, foreign languages, shipping, economics and informatization. The professional team promotes the implementation of the strategy of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, the Yangtze River Delta Economic Integration, and the National Maritime Power Building.
